What is love? A short story by Jennifer Bigham

March 18, 2012

We love each other to bits during the day, and try to live up to the saying at night.  Myles and I have a notorious track record of beating the crap out of each other while we sleep.

One of the many weapons in sleeping Myles’ arsenal is the grapple.  Perhaps from being a Greco-Roman wrestler in a past life?  My darling will frequently grab me and place me in a submission hold during slumber; this lazy Sunday morning was no different.

Today Myles used the classic chest pin submission hold and I, being very much awake, had an adorable sleeping bear on my chest.  I looked over and saw my phone on the bedside table.  Perfect, I thought, I can derp around on the internet until he wakes up naturally.  Everything was going according to plan until there was a finger fumble and I dropped the phone at arms length and watched it ricochet off the head of the sleeping bear.  With a combined growl/whimper and a look of ultimate sleepy betrayal he retreated back to his side of the bed.  I of course burst out laughing at the ridiculousness of the situation, and quickly realized that I still have not developed the life skill of being able to suspend laughter and deliver a convincing apology.  Bwahhaha, sorry babers, hahaha…. I really am… HAHAHAHA.

Didn’t seem to accurately convey the regretful sentiments that were going through my mind.  I hugged him extra tight and kept trying to convey my laughter/apology until he started laughing too.  Before I knew it he had dozed off again, this time I was wedged in his armpit in a headlock.  The end ❤

Feb 12 2012 – Grill’d Burgers

February 12, 2012

Grill'd Burgers

A few weeks ago Jenn started her new job at Grill’d Burgers and from all reports, is enjoying it immensely.

Jenn looking funky in her Grill'd Uniform

Grill’d Burgers applies a healthy fresh angle to burgers and are really popular.

As well as being famous for their burgers, Grill’d is renowned for their Chips (fries).

It’s the secret herb blend that make them so good. Hot, Seasoned, Crispy and fresh. Not a typical tasteless soggy pile of potato. They also come with a variety of  “chip dips”, like herb mayonnaise, tomato relish or sweet chilli mayo.

Inside Grill'd

The restaurants themselves are fresh and funky. Build to suit old and young.

Check out the Website and the Menu. Makes me hungry every time.

February 7 2012 – Remembering Black Saturday – Three Years On

February 7, 2012

Black Saturday - 3 years on Source: Australian Geographic

I still remember shock as I got out the car that Saturday morning. I remember the wind stinging my face and eyes. It was like an oven. Bentleigh, which was usually packed of a morning was near empty. Rubbish was flying around everywhere, I had never felt heat like this in my life. It was 48.8 degrees celcius, in the shade, at 11am.

Dad and I went home and vowed to never go out for the rest of the day.

Then we started seeing the bushfire reports on TV. It was the perfect conditions. We know when it’s hot and windy, to never light a fire. The news didn’t report the full scale of it. We thought we got off lucky.

Unfortunately when we awoke the next morning shrouded in a light smoke haze, the full extent of the situation was coming through.

173 people had lost their lives that day. It was a day i’ll never forget. It was a day Australia will never forget.

Jenn and I watched the documentary ‘Then the Wind Changed’  tonight which was on ABC1. It was a emotional look back.

Below is Kinglake, a town that was all but wiped out, moments before the fires.

This is St Andrews, some of the only footage of the white ‘twister like’ flames reported.
